A Special Delivery
Giving birth is supposed to be a unique and transformational experience – a special, unforgettable day for mom and a loving, welcoming day for the child.
Jaclyn Adkins experienced this firsthand recently with the birth of her daughter, Karleigh, at Logan Regional Medical Center (LRMC). This was first of sorts for Jaclyn, even though Karleigh is her fifth baby.
After complicated pregnancies and four less-than-ideal, birth-related stays at other hospitals, Jaclyn found the compassionate and personalized care she had been searching for right here at LRMC. Her recent delivery of Karleigh marked the first time she was able to carry her child to full term.
“I’ve never had an experience like this before,” Jaclyn shared. “From my very first appointment, I felt heard, supported, and treated like family. The entire team truly listened to me – they knew what I had been through, and they cared deeply about helping me carry this baby safely to term.”
Jaclyn’s prior pregnancies resulted in one heartbreaking loss and underwhelming experiences at hospitals in larger West Virginia cities. The Adkins family then discovered Dr. Emad Mousa and the OB/GYN team at LRMC, as well as the team led by Megan O’Brien, Director of Women’s Services and Pediatrics at LRMC. The family experienced a level of care that was unmatched.
“Nobody treated us like strangers,” said Scott Roberts, Jaclyn’s husband. “Megan knew our history, she was prepared, and the entire staff was ready to care for us every step of the way.”
Megan says she and the team at LRMC take pride in building relationships with patients like Jaclyn and understanding their unique stories. “We don’t treat people like numbers here. Every patient matters, and it’s our job to walk with them through the entire journey – from that first prenatal visit to delivery day.”
That approach led to a unique experience for Jaclyn and a happy birthday for all parties involved.
Jaclyn’s story is one of many that highlight the dedication, preparation, and heart behind LRMC’s Women’s Services team. The hospital continues to provide compassionate, expert care for women and families across southern West Virginia.
