Logan Regional Medical Center Welcomes Inaugural Class of Rural General Surgery Residents
January 23, 2024
Logan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the successful launch of its Rural General Surgery Residency Program, welcoming the inaugural class of residents in collaboration with Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and the Marshall Health Consortium.
This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in the commitment to addressing healthcare disparities in rural areas. The partnership between Logan Regional Medical Center, Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, and the Marshall Health Consortium underscores a shared dedication to enhancing healthcare access and delivery for underserved communities.
The Rural General Surgery Residency Program aims to train and cultivate skilled surgeons who will be equipped to meet the unique healthcare needs of rural populations. By providing specialized training in a collaborative and comprehensive environment, this program seeks to bridge the gap in surgical services available to residents in rural areas.
"We are thrilled to welcome the first cohort of residents into our Rural General Surgery Residency Program. This collaborative effort with Marshall University and the Marshall Health Consortium reflects our commitment to elevating healthcare standards in our community and addressing the specific needs of rural populations," said David Brash, CEO of Logan Regional Medical Center.
In the five-year general surgery residency program, the students will be dividing their time between Cabell Huntington Hospital and Logan Regional Medical Center. While they are in Logan, they will be training under longtime rural surgeons Dr. Jodi Cisco-Goff and Dr. James Paugh.
