Logan Regional Medical Center Publishes 2023 Community Benefit Report
June 5, 2024
LOGAN, West Virginia (June 5, 2024) – Logan Regional Medical Center (LRMC) today published its community benefit and economic impact report for the 2023 calendar year. The report highlights some of the many ways the hospital positively contributes to Logan and surrounding areas while supporting the health and well-being of those who live and work in the region.
“Our primary mission at Logan Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is to best serve the health and well-being of those who entrust us with their care, today and in the future,” said David L. Brash, FACHE, CPPS, CEO of LRMC. “In 2023, we provided high-quality care while launching initiatives like the first in the nation separately accredited rural general surgery residency program and our renovated Primary Care Center that set us up for future success. As this report details, in the process of providing care for our friends, families and neighbors in the Logan area, our hospital has a significant impact that resonates beyond our four walls.”
Logan Regional’s 2023 community benefit report details the hospital’s continued efforts to meet the area’s growing healthcare needs by welcoming new providers, expanding service lines and continually investing in its facilities and healthcare technology. For example, in 2023, LRMC added 82 affiliated providers and made more than $2.3 million in capital improvements, including renovations of the first floor of the Medical Office Building – the RHC Logan Primary Care office; and the purchase of such items as a hematology analyzer, centrifuge, cleaning equipment, ultrasound transducer, new patient/employee shuttle bus, new physical therapy equipment, five Tablo machines to bring dialysis services in-house, and a portable oximeter for the cardiac catheterization lab.
Additionally, LRMC provided more than $1.5 million in health services to those in need, demonstrating its continued commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Logan Regional is also devoted to creating environments where providers want to practice and employees want to work. In 2023, the hospital distributed more than $46.5 million in salaries, wages, and benefits for its approximately 700 employees, and contributed more than $40,000 in professional development and tuition assistance so its employees have the opportunity to learn and improve the care they provide their patients.
The report shares several examples of how LRMC is continually seeking ways to make a positive impact in the communities it serves, extending far beyond the physical walls of its facilities. Last year, the organization paid more than $6 million in provider, payroll, property, and sales taxes, displaying its commitment to fiscal responsibility in an effort to boost the area’s economic well-being. The hospital is also honored to have continued its support of local activities and organizations that contribute to the community, including The Aracoma Story, Beth Haven Christian School, Chapmanville Regional High School, LEASA, Logan Area Marshall Athletic Club, Logan County Deputy Sheriffs Association, Logan County Firefighters Association, Logan County Schools, Logan Elementary Special Olympics, Logan High School, Logan Shrine Club, Man High School, Marshall University, Maryetta United Baptist Church, Paintsville Power, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia, Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Foundation, Tug Valley High School, and West Logan Christian Academy, among others.
“It’s our privilege to partner with others who share our goal of uplifting the broader community,” added Brash. “We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without support from those around us, so we are happy to contribute to efforts that promote a healthier Logan area.”
