Logan Regional Opens New Cardiac Cath Lab

5/28/2011

Logan, West Virginia – Logan Regional Medical Center has taken another major step in its drive to become one of the region’s finest and most comprehensive patient care medical centers with the  opening of a state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology/ Cardiac Catheterization Lab that facilitates onsite diagnostics of a much broader range of cardiac patients.

“Previously, patients in our area haven’t had an opportunity for access to this type of service without having to drive a distance,” says Nancy Godby, COO Logan Regional Medical Center.  “We wanted to provide more convenient care to our patients by bringing this service closer to home.”

Cardiac catheterization examines patients for blockages in the heart and coronary arteries.  The test examines blood flow in the arteries, blood flow and blood pressure in the chambers of the heart, and function of the heart.  Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty that allows specially-trained radiologists to see inside the body while guiding catheters and other instruments through blood vessels and other pathways of the body to perform minimally invasive procedures.

The new IR/Cath lab at Logan Regional features new state-of-the-art equipment for cardiac and interventional imaging, and will offer diagnostic cardiac services, as well as interventional radiology procedures.

For Logan Regional, the state-of-the-art IR/Cardiac Catheterization Lab is the latest step in a continuing journey to set the standard for what a community-based hospital can achieve when it commits to delivering the highest-quality patient care, driven by a medical team that is second to none.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held June 3 at 2pm in the main lobby of the hospital. Congressman Nick Joe Rahall is expected to speak. Tours will be available and light refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend.
