2006 Mercy Award Winner

Richard Taylor was recently awarded Logan Regional Medical Center's 2006 Mercy Award. This honor places him in nomination for LifePoint's 2006 Mercy Award, the highest honor an employee can earn with LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., the parent company of Logan Regional Medical Center.

The Mercy Award was created to honor outstanding individuals for their commitment to LifePoint's high standards of excellence. It is given annually in honor of Scott L. Mercy (1961-2000), founding Chief Executive Officer of LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. This award commends individuals whose daily dedication and care giving inspires others with their compassion, dedication and merciful spirit.

Taylor serves as Director of Cardiac Lab/Rehab and Respiratory Department. He received his BS and MA degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and completed his Doctorate in Exercise Physiology at West Virginia University. Taylor is registered in Adult Echocardiography and as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. He is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, served as the West Virginia representative for the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and has been a featured guest speaker at the Echo Conference at Marshall University. Taylor was the recipient of the 1993 Pullium Award, which is presented to a West Virginian who has made a significant impact on ultrasound education and the profession of sonographers. He is also active in his church and the community; working with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and participating in health fairs across the area.

Richard's peers recognize him as "a positive role model to his patients, fellow employees and the community. He is someone who always has a smile and a kind word for everyone." "We are extremely proud to recognize Richard for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community," said Kevin Fowler, CEO, Logan Regional Medical Center. "His dedication to his profession and compassion for others is inspiring to all who meet him."

Taylor said that just being nominated was "humbling" and praised his fellow nominees. Other nominees included Darlene Shaw who was nominated for her "total dedication to her job, family, church and community". Kathy Browning was acknowledged by her fellow employees as "always willing to go out of her way to help others" and Pam Hapney was honored for her "spirit and positive outlook on life". Shelia Nelson inspires those she works with by her "dedication and desire to lift others spirits", and Elizabeth Shawver was named to this elite group for showing devotion to her patients and always "having a smile to give away."

Expanded MRI Services

Our new GE 1.5 Tesla SIGNA EXCITE MRI system provides detailed images of any part of the body. Unlike a traditional MRI where patients were placed in a tube-like chamber, this new system is open on both ends and is made especially for people who don't like the confining atmosphere of a standard MRI. In addition, the faster scan times will mean less time in the MRI.

All appointments are made through the Centralized Scheduling Department at (304) 831-1928 with a physician's referral.
